The last 24 hours
The house remains inside the Level 1 "Get Ready" zone — that status itself is unchanged, day 5 since the Aug 25, 9:20 AM PDT redraw. What's new this cycle: the Sheriff's GIS layer touched that exact zone again today at 1:48 PM PDT, the first edit to it since Aug 25. The neighboring Level 2 "Get Set" zone was also redrawn today, at 2:18 PM PDT — its first edit since Aug 16. Both redraws left the numbers that matter for the house unchanged: still inside Level 1, Level 2 still 2 mi NNE, Level 3 "Go Now" still 3.7 mi NNE (untouched since Aug 16). Read together, this is the Sheriff's office actively re-surveying the two zones closest to Plain for the first time in days — worth flagging on its own — but not, so far, a boundary that moved closer.
A second change: a new zone entry appeared in the layer today, "Little Giant-Level 1 (Get Ready)" — distinct from the house's own Level 1 zone in the GIS data, name formatted without the usual spacing — at 4.9 mi N, added/edited at 2:17 PM PDT. It wasn't present in this morning's data at all. It may be a second polygon for the same Level 1 advisory rather than a genuinely new area; the distinction should resolve on the next redraw. Further out, LG Entiat - Level 1 (9.3 mi E) was also redrawn today (2:07 PM PDT, previously Aug 27) with no distance change, and a Stehekin Level 1 zone moved to 39.7 mi N (was 42.2 mi) — both well outside anything that matters for Plain.
The GIS perimeter is now dated Aug 29, 3:02 PM PDT — 162,540 acres, 27% contained, nearest mapped edge flat at 5.2 mi NNE. InciWeb's Aug 29, 3:25 PM update puts the newer, working-current figure at 162,961 acres, also 27% contained, personnel steady at 1,850. InciWeb again places the fire's active behavior — extreme, crowning, long-range spotting — in the Chiwawa River drainage around Stormy Mountain, the same far side described all week, with no mention of Plain, Lake Wenatchee, or the White River.
VIIRS logged 29 detections in the region over the last 24 hours, down sharply from this morning's 294 — most likely a satellite-pass gap rather than a real drop in heat, consistent with the swings seen on other days this week. Nearest detection to the house holds low, 6.6 mi NE, FRP 1.36. The near-Plain heat clusters (5–9 mi N/NNE/NE) are all reading as persistent multi-day signatures now, with no new single-day cluster close enough to flag as a possible start. The 9 mi NE flank flagged Aug 27 at FRP 851 picked up a third consecutive day of detections (Aug 27–29) but no new peak reading — still established fire behavior, not an escalation.
lakewenatcheeinfo.com again returned no usable content. Lake Chelan Now has no new Little Giant post. The Chelan County active-emergencies page is still stuck on its Aug 17, 3:30 PM update — now 12 days stale. wasmoke.blogspot.com's latest (Aug 27) cites acreage already superseded by this run's numbers, though its broader point — Chelan County air monitors unhealthy-for-sensitive-groups on 20 of the last 24 days — tracks with today's own reading below. A general search turned up only older coverage (132,978 to ~150,000 acres, various July/August datelines) predating this run's figures — discarded as stale rather than reported.
What stands between the fire and the house
Unchanged from recent cycles: Level 2 at 2 mi NNE and Level 3 at 3.7 mi NNE, both untouched in their actual boundaries since Aug 16, and the mapped fire perimeter itself at 5.2 mi NNE. Today's redraws touched the lines on the two nearest zones without moving the distances — so the buffer is the same size it was yesterday, just more recently re-surveyed.
Fire weather
No Red Flag Warning. Wind stays in the favorable northwest quadrant: NW 15 mph this afternoon (gusts to 24), easing to NW 5–13 mph tonight and NW 5–10 mph Sunday. A 30% chance of rain showers today, patchy smoke overnight, then a light, weak shift to E 1–5 mph Monday — too faint to matter on its own. Real rain chances build midweek: 40% Tuesday, 70% Wednesday, both accompanied by continued NW flow — worth watching as the first real chance of sustained relief this month.
Air quality
AQI 175 (PM2.5 70.5 µg/m³, PM10 71.2) as of 4 PM — down from this morning's 198, but PM2.5 roughly doubled from 36.2, the same AQI-eases-while-PM2.5-spikes divergence seen before, likely a surface-inversion effect. NWS's Air Quality Alert was extended again and now runs through Aug 30, 12:15 PM PDT.
Roads: no blocks logged in the GIS layer.
What I'd watch
- Whether the new "Little Giant-Level 1 (Get Ready)" entry at 4.9 mi N merges into the existing Level 1 polygon on the next redraw (a mapping artifact) or persists and grows as its own area (a real expansion).
- Whether the Level 1 and Level 2 zones nearest the house — both touched for the first time in days — get redrawn again tomorrow with an actual distance change, rather than today's edit-with-no-movement.
- Whether the 9 mi NE flank (three straight days of detections, FRP up to 851) posts a new peak reading or draws news coverage of a distinct front, versus continuing to hold at its existing intensity.
