The last 24 hours

The GIS perimeter (mapped 7:59 AM PDT) has Little Giant at 122,401 acres, 2% contained — up 5,445 acres from yesterday evening's 116,956, a much slower pace than the prior day's 13,890-acre jump. InciWeb's own figure still lags at 111,429 acres (last updated Aug 10, 7:45 PM); per the standing rule here, the newer GIS number is the working-current one. The only zone change in the past 24 hours was on the fire's east side: the LG Entiat Level 3 (Go Now!) boundary was extended Monday at 9:31 AM PDT, 8.4 mi ENE of the house. That follows confirmed structure losses in the upper Entiat Valley reported Aug 9 — 26 structures (2 homes, 3 cabins, 21 outbuildings). Every Plain-side zone — Level 1, 2, and 3 — remains frozen since July 25–31.

What stands between the fire and Plain

Unchanged from last night: the nearest mapped edge is 8.6 mi NNW of the house, same distance as the prior report. The Entiat zone edit above is close enough to trip this tracker's automated distance alert (any zone edited in the last 24 h within 15 mi sends an email), even though it sits on the opposite side of the fire from Plain and doesn't touch the containment picture here. Satellite heat within 12 mi of the house stays clustered 8+ miles out on the fire's known south/southwest and northeast flanks. Two small single-day clusters — 8.3 mi NE (2 detections, Aug 8, FRP 2.4) and 8.5 mi NNE (4 detections, Aug 9, FRP 2.7) — are unverified, low-intensity, and line up with the fire's known eastward push toward Entiat, not a new start near Plain.

Fire weather

Regime holds favorable: NW winds 6–13 mph today, gusting to 22 — hazy but dry, pushing growth away from Plain. NWS Spokane still has rain and thunderstorm chances arriving Wednesday (50%) and continuing into Thursday, the same window flagged in the last brief. Outflow gusts on those thunderstorm days remain the one wildcard that could turn wind direction regardless of the prevailing pattern.

Air quality

Improving. Modeled AQI at the house is 112 (PM2.5 ~47.5 µg/m³), down from 154 yesterday, though still under an Air Quality Alert until 5:15 PM today. Expect continued improvement but not clean air until the Wednesday–Thursday system moves through.

Roads: no new road blocks logged by the county today; the Chumstick Hwy pilot-car paving delay reported earlier this week (through Aug 14) remains the only known route impact.
