The last 24 hours
The house remains inside the Level 1 "Get Ready" zone, unchanged since the Aug 15 redraw. Level 2 "Get Set" holds at 2.0 mi NNE and Level 3 "Go Now" at 3.7 mi NNE, both untouched since Aug 16.
The Entiat-side picture moved, though what it means isn't confirmed yet. Three zones were touched between 1:43 and 3:31 PM PDT today:
- LG Entiat - Level 3 "Go Now" re-edited at the same 8.4 mi ENE it has held since Aug 20 — reads as a republish, not a boundary move.
- The zone that has sat at 9.3 mi E since Aug 20 — previously labeled "LG Entiat - Level 2 (Get Set)" — now appears in the Sheriff's layer as "Little Giant - Level 1 (Get Ready)", same distance and bearing, one level lower.
- A new "LG Entiat - Level 2 (Get Set)" zone appeared at 11.3 mi ENE, a position that wasn't on the map this morning.
- The "LG Entiat - Level 1 (Get Ready)" zone that had sat at 12.3 mi ESE since Aug 8 is no longer in today's zone list at all.
Read at face value, this looks like an easing on the Entiat side — a Get Set zone downgraded to Get Ready, the nearest Get Set boundary pushed a couple of miles farther out. But the GIS layer carries no persistent zone IDs, so there's no way to confirm this is the same footprint redrawn rather than a zone dropped and a new one added under a different name. All of it still sits well inside the 15 mi range that matters for the house, so it counts toward tonight's alert regardless of interpretation. No news source turned up a matching Entiat-area evacuation change dated today — InciWeb, Lake Chelan Now, and a general search all came up empty on this specific point — so treat the downgrade read as unconfirmed until it either shows up in tomorrow's zone list or gets corroborated.
The GIS perimeter is effectively flat: 142,226 acres (+8), 15% contained (unchanged), still dated Aug 22, 2:59 PM PDT. InciWeb's Aug 22, 4:11 PM update matches closely at 142,218 acres / 15%, describing fire behavior as variable, primarily surface fire with backing and flanking, and localized intensity where heat, fuels, terrain, and wind align — concentrated near Cougar Mountain and the northern perimeter, same as this morning. The nearest point of the perimeter to the house held exactly flat at 5.3 mi NE.
The two unverified VIIRS clusters flagged this morning at 5.2 mi NNE and 5.6 mi NNE are still single-day (Aug 22 only) — no second day yet, so still unconfirmed as anything beyond the fire's own leading edge. Nothing new appeared closer to Plain this cycle.
Lake Chelan Now's most recent post is still Thursday's community-meeting notice — nothing dated today. lakewenatcheeinfo.com did not return usable content this cycle. The Chelan County active-emergencies page was unreachable from this environment (blocked by network policy, not a data failure — zone boundaries come from the Sheriff's GIS layer regardless). A general search surfaced an unread KPQ headline referencing Entiat-area evacuation activity, but the article itself was inaccessible, so it's noted only as an unconfirmed lead, not corroboration of the zone reshuffle above.
Fire weather
The Red Flag Warning remains in effect through midnight tonight (12:00 AM PDT). Today's chance of showers and thunderstorms before 5 PM has mostly passed by this afternoon's capture; wind held NW at 10 mph, gusts to 23 mph, still pushing the fire east, away from Plain. Tonight settles to NW 7–10 mph, gusts to 23. Sunday stays NW at 8–13 mph before winds go light and variable into next week — no regime change signaled once tonight's window closes.
Air quality
AQI jumped to 179 (PM2.5 92.9 µg/m3), up from this morning's 163 and well above last night's 68 — smoke settling back in as afternoon mixing fades. NWS's Air Quality Alert for Chelan, Douglas, and Okanogan counties now runs through Aug 23, 3:00 PM.
Roads: no blocks logged.
What I'd watch
- Tomorrow morning's zone list — whether the Entiat-side reshuffle holds (Get Ready at 9.3 mi E, Get Set at 11.3 mi ENE) or reverts, and whether any news source catches up to explain it.
- Outflow through midnight — any wind reported out of the north or northeast, not the prevailing NW, before the Red Flag Warning expires.
- The two unverified VIIRS clusters at 5.2–5.6 mi NNE — a second day of detections would firm up whether they're the fire's edge or something separate.
