Quiet again right around the house — the Level 1 zone and the nearer Plain-side boundaries are unchanged, and today's only new GIS activity is a Level 1 zone near Stehekin, 42 miles away. Containment improved to 27% while acreage held essentially flat, and air quality eased slightly to AQI 198 but stays Unhealthy, with today's Air Quality Alert set to expire at noon. Wind stays favorable out of the northwest, though a chance of thunderstorms today is worth watching for outflow.

The last 24 hours

The house remains inside the Level 1 "Get Ready" zone, unchanged since the Aug 25, 9:20 AM PDT redraw. Level 2 "Get Set" holds at 2 mi NNE and Level 3 "Go Now" at 3.7 mi NNE, both untouched since Aug 16 — nothing in the immediate Plain-side picture moved overnight.

The only GIS edit in the last 24 hours was a new Stehekin - Level 1 (Get Ready) zone, 42.2 mi N, added Aug 28 at 4:26 PM PDT — well outside any distance that matters for Plain, but consistent with the fire's continued push toward the Lake Chelan/Stehekin side. Yesterday's Lake Chelan zones (Levels 1–3, 15.1–20.5 mi NE/E) are unchanged today.

The GIS perimeter is dated Aug 28, 5:54 PM PDT — 162,244 acres, 27% contained, nearest mapped edge unchanged at 5.2 mi NNE. InciWeb's Aug 29, 10:52 AM update — the newer figure and working current — puts it at 162,671 acres, also 27% contained; assigned personnel dropped to 1,850, from 2,015. InciWeb describes continued extreme fire behavior — crowning, long-range spotting, uphill runs — and cites morning thunderstorm outflow winds driving a rapid increase in activity and column development, without specifying a direction; nothing in that narrative points toward the Plain side.

VIIRS logged 294 detections in the region over the last 24 hours, down from 457 the prior period. Nearest detection to the house holds at 6.4 mi NNE (FRP 2.98). All of the persistent near-Plain heat clusters are unchanged from recent days; the only new signature is a small single-day cluster 9.6 mi NE (2 detections, FRP 49.44, Aug 28) — modest, and nowhere near the FRP 851 reading flagged Aug 27, so it reads as ordinary fire activity rather than a new start.

lakewenatcheeinfo.com again returned no usable content. Lake Chelan Now has no new Little Giant post. The Chelan County active-emergencies page is still stuck on its Aug 17, 3:30 PM update — now 12 days stale. wasmoke.blogspot.com's latest post (Aug 27) still cites acreage and containment figures already superseded by this run's numbers. A general search turned up only older articles from the fire's earlier growth phase, predating this run's numbers — discarded rather than reported.

Fire weather

No Red Flag Warning. Wind stays in the favorable northwest quadrant: NW 13–17 mph today (gusts to 26), NW 5–17 mph tonight, NW 7 mph Sunday. Today carries a chance of showers and thunderstorms — worth watching for erratic outflow winds, though the base flow stays out of the northwest. A light shift toward the north (1–5 mph) shows up in Monday's forecast; too weak to be a danger signal on its own, but worth a glance if it holds or strengthens.

Air quality

AQI 198 (PM2.5 36.2 µg/m³) as of 8 AM — down from yesterday afternoon's 206 spike but still Unhealthy. NWS's Air Quality Alert remains set to expire today, Aug 29 at 12:00 PM PDT, with no further extension logged yet; watch whether it's renewed again before then, as it has been on each of the past several days.

If Level 3 reaches the house — leave immediately: primary route Beaver Valley Rd → SR 207 → US 2; alternate Chumstick Hwy to Leavenworth (mind the pilot-car delays); US 2 west over Stevens Pass if east is compromised.
